Our story didn’t begin in a boardroom; it began with an observation born from experience. Standard pillows, while soft, are often bulky and awkward for patients recovering from surgeries like a mastectomy or lumpectomy. They don’t fit comfortably under the arm to relieve pressure and protect sensitive areas. The founder of our project saw this firsthand and realized there was a need for something better—something designed not just for comfort, but with true empathy.
The heart shape was a moment of inspiration. It was symbolic, of course, representing the love and support of a community. But it was also perfectly functional. The gentle curves of the heart fit snugly under a patient’s arm, providing the perfect amount of cushioning. It was a practical solution infused with profound meaning, a way to offer both physical relief and emotional strength in one simple package. When she was asked to sew hearts for a local hospital, she realized very quickly it had filled her heart and it was time to spread the love!

What makes The Full Heart Project truly special is that the healing flows in two directions. Our items are crafted by the loving and resilient hands of cancer survivors. For many of our makers, the journey after treatment can be isolating. Joining our project gives them a renewed sense of purpose and a powerful way to give back. The rhythmic, therapeutic act of sewing becomes a form of healing in itself, and the camaraderie of working alongside others who share a similar journey creates an unbreakable bond.
